Method One: Duplicate a Website Through your Web Hosting Provider

The first way is to create a duplicate website through the hosting provider that you’re using. This is a really simple method that saves a lot of steps. So, here are the ways you can do this.

Step 1 – Log in

Log into your Cloudways admin area and then go to the website that you wish to clone.

Step 2 – Activate Clone

In the application interface screen, there should be a button in the bottom right corner that says ‘Clone App/Create Stating’. You want to click on this button.

A popup will appear asking if you’re sure you would like to do this. Click on the dropdown menu and select the server the website is going to go on. Then click on the ‘Continue’ button.

It will now take Cloudways a few minutes to copy your website.

Method Two: Plugins

Another option is to use a WordPress plugin that can clone the WordPress website. One of the best plugins for the task is All-in-One WP Migration. It is very simple and easy to use and can be used to backup your website, migrate it and even clone a website.

Here are the steps to use the plugin to clone your website.

Step 1 – Login

Step 3 – Clone

On the left-hand menu, find the option for the plugin and then click on that to access the migration screen. Click on the ‘Export’ option and then ‘Export To’ dropdown and select the ‘File’ option.

You will then be presented with a popup that will ask you to download the backup. Save the file to your computer, it will be in a .wpress file.

Step 4 – New Website

Now go to the new website where you would like to clone the new website to. Login to that dashboard and find the plugin store. Find, install and activate the All-in-One WP Migration plugin.

Step 5 – Upload Clone

Now go to the ‘Import’ option in the plugin’s options and click on the ‘Import From’ option in the dropdown and then select ‘file’. Find the previous .wpress file and select that.

You might need to change the maximum upload file size limit for your website.

This process takes a long time to process as it takes a while to upload and extract the .wpress file. Once completed, you will get a popup warning that has a button that has the option of ‘Proceed’. Click on this.

Step 6 – Permalinks

On the next option, you will have to select the permalinks structure. For this click on the ‘Save permalinks structure’ option.

Step 7 – Login

You will then be taken to the standard WordPress login page. You can log in with the admin credentials of the old WordPress website. You will be taken to the Permalinks tab and you can click on the ‘Save Changes’ and you’re finished.
