How to Apply an Elementor Template to a Page

An Elementor template is a saved page layout. It can include a complete design with headers, sections, text blocks, images, and buttons, or just a partial section you want to reuse. There are two types you will work with:

• Library templates: Free and premium designs provided by Elementor and third-party creators, available through the Elementor Template Library.
• My Templates: Designs you built yourself and saved for reuse across pages on your site.

When you apply a template to a page, it replaces whatever is currently on that page with the template layout. If you want to keep existing content, save your page as a template first before applying the new one.

The most common reasons people apply Elementor templates are:

• Consistent multi-page design: You want your About, Services, and Contact pages to share the same section structure and color scheme without rebuilding each one from scratch.
• Speed: Starting from a polished template is far faster than building from a blank canvas, especially for landing pages.
• Reusing your own work: If you designed a page that performed well, saving it as a template lets you roll out the same structure on other parts of the site with a few edits.
• Team consistency: If multiple people manage the site, templates enforce a consistent look without relying on everyone remembering the right settings.

Here are the steps to apply an Elementor template to a new or existing page:

1. Open the page in Elementor by clicking Edit with Elementor in the WordPress admin.
2. Once the Elementor editor loads, click the folder icon in the bottom toolbar. This opens the Template Library.
3. You will see two tabs: My Templates (your saved designs) and the main library. Browse or search for the design you want.
4. Hover over a template and click Insert. Elementor will confirm before inserting.
5. If the template relies on Elementor Pro features and you are on the free version, some widgets will not render. Check for missing elements after inserting.
6. After inserting, customize the text, images, and colors to match your content. Then click Update to save.

One detail worth knowing: clicking Insert adds the template sections below any existing content on the page. If you want the template to replace everything, delete the existing sections first or start with an empty page.

Applying a template to a page that already has sections and content requires one extra step. If you click Insert without clearing the page first, the template sections get added below your existing content, which is usually not what you want.

The clean way to apply a template to an existing page:

1. Open the page in Elementor.
2. Right-click on each existing section and select Delete until the page is empty. Alternatively, right-click the first section handle, choose Select All, then delete. If you might want to return to the original layout, save the current page as a template first.
3. With the canvas clear, click the folder icon and insert your chosen template.
4. Edit the content and click Update.

This is the step that trips up most people. Elementor does not prompt you to replace existing content, it just appends, which is why deleting first is necessary.

If you have designed a page in Elementor that you want to reuse, you can save it as a template so it appears in your My Templates library. This is useful when you have a landing page or section layout that works well and you want to apply a similar structure to other pages.

To save a page as a template:

1. Open the page in Elementor.
2. Click the arrow next to the green Update button at the bottom of the left panel.
3. Select Save as Template.
4. Give the template a name and click Save.

The template will now appear under My Templates in the Template Library. You can insert it on any other page in your site using the same folder icon method. Templates saved this way are local to your WordPress site and are not shared with anyone else.
