How to use the Cloudways Migrator Plugin

Follow these steps to use the Cloudways Migrator Plugin.

Step 1 – Log In

The first step is to log in to your WordPress admin panel.

Step 2 – Install the Cloudways Migrator Plugin

Now you need to install the Cloudways Migrator Plugin. This can be done through the normal plugin installation process by going to ‘Plugins’, then ‘Add New Plugin’ and then searching for the Cloudways Migrator Plugin. Once you’ve found it in the plugin depository, you can then install the plugin and activate.

Step 3 – Enter Required Information

After activating the plugin you will be taken to the Cloudways migrator plugin page. You will need to enter in a few details to get the plugin to work. The information is:

Email address: This can be any email address you own, but preferably the one that you registered with Cloudways.
Destination site URL: This is the one that is listed within the Cloudways dashboard.
Database Name: This again can be found within your Cloudways dashboard. You can find this information by selecting the website from the top menu bar. Then click on the website name that you want to use in Cloudways and the Database name will then appear on the screen, along with other information.
Server Public IP Address: This is the public IP address. This can be found under the server tab.
SFTP Username: This is the Master username that can also be found in the Server tab.
SFTP Password: The password that is used along with your SFTP Username.

Step 4 – Click on Migrate

Once you’ve completed this information you can start the migration process. This is done with the simple button labeled ‘Migrate’.

The migration for your website can be very different depending on the size of the original website. The minimal amount of time should be about one hour, but for larger websites (like large eCommerce sites) then it can take four hours or more.

As soon as your migration has been completed, the status will show as ‘Completed’. You can check that the migration has been successful by clicking on the ‘Visit Migrated Site’ button.

Once you’re happy with the site, you can make your Cloudways website live. Until this point, it is in a staging website.
